REGIONAL INFORMATION FOR SPAIN
Introduction
Reports from
respected analysts Mintel, Datamonitor and the
Office of National Statistics may differ on numbers,
but they all agree on one thing - the majority of
people looking to buy overseas choose Spain.
Supported by the best infrastructure, transport
links and quality of life in Europe, it's one of the
easiest places to buy as a non-national - with a
range of mortgage options from domestic and
international banks.
Spain cannot be judged as a
whole, particularly when you consider that the
cheapest property could be up to 16 times less than
the most expensive. Vast local and regional
variations mean that it is better to judge each
province, city or town on its own (often
considerable) merits. While some areas have been
over-developed in recent years, other regional
markets are just emerging where local government,
developers and agents have learned from mistakes
made elsewhere.
We have carefully selected
areas we are active in and have taken the time to
establish ourselves to build a network of key
contacts. As a result, we are well-placed to offer
the best deals and properties of the highest
quality.
COSTA BLANCA NORTH
World Class Homes has considerable representation in
this area, with its many delightful fishing towns
and villages where development has been carefully
controlled and individual villas predominate. In the
areas of Altea, Calpe, Moraira, Benitchell, Javea,
Jalon Valley and Denia we have villas, apartments,
bungalows, fincas, building plots and even
commercial properties - plus more resale homes than
anyone else.
If it's a quiet and totally relaxed lifestyle you crave, you will find it here. The World Health Organisation reports that the region has one of the finest climates in the world, particularly for people with respiratory difficulties. Furthermore, it comes with the infrastructure - such as medical facilities, shopping centres, restaurants, etc - to support the lifestyle. It's very easy to get there as well. Plenty of low cost flights are available to Alicante and Valencia, which are maximum one hour away.
COSTA BLANCA SOUTH
Set among rolling hills and mountains, vineyards and
thousands of acres of farmland, Spain's Costa Blanca
region is also known as the market garden of Spain -
producing salad, melons, citrus and artichokes. In
addition to the traditional towns and villages
surrounding the Costa Blanca, you will also find
health spas and hot springs, beaches, therapeutic
salt flats and warm inland seas i.e. Costa Calida or
Mar Menor.
In addition to the fishing towns of
Torrevieja, Santa Pola, Guardamar, San Pedro, San
Javier and Alicante itself, there are excellent golf
courses in the area including Vilamartin, Las
Ramblas, Campoamor, La Finca and La Manga. The
famous Murcia golf valley is nearby and includes the
six Polaris courses as well as many others.
A
popular destination for British and North Europeans,
with a large permanent non-Spanish population, it
has excellent hospitals and international schools in
both Alicante and Murcia. There are two
international airports serving Spain's Costa Blanca
South. Alicante is one of Spain's busiest airports
and there is also San Murcia to the south. Every low
cost airline from Europe flies into both.
Our homes are your homes
World Class Homes has many different properties
available along the coast, or Costa Orihuela as it
is sometimes known, which will appeal to a wide
range of buyers. Local partners and developers in
the region make sure that our customers have access
to the very best selection of beach, golf and inland
apartments, townhouses and villas, as well as
restored farmhouses or fincas. Our properties in
Spain's Costa Blanca are found between Alicante and
La Manga and offer outstanding investment potential.
Property prices in Spain's Costa Blanca South
are relatively cheaper than many other areas of
Spain.

COSTA BRAVA
The
Costa Brava, a coastal region of North eastern
Catalyna, stretches from Blanes, 60km Northeast of
Barcalona, to the French border. Brava is the
Catalan for 'rugged' or 'wild' and, while it has
been tamed in many respects by developers targeting
the package holiday market, it has many undiscovered
areas. Small towns like Cadaques (close to the
French border and close to the foothills of the
Pyrenees) have become very fashionable (having
attracted artists such as Salvador Dali and Pablo
Picasso). The Costa Brava, or Catalyna as it is also
known, was recently voted the world's best new
golfing destination.
In 1998, coastal towns of the Costa Brava signed
a charter (the Carta de Tossa) to protect the
environment and tourism from excessive development.
The Islas Medes off the coast of L'Estartit, for
example, is Spain's first maritime nature reserve
and the nearby wildfowl reserve on marshland at
L'Emporda is also protected.
Puig Rosell, at
Calonga, is an exclusive development of high
quality, detached villa with sea or mountain views.
The average plot size is a quarter of an acre and
competitive, personalised payment plans are
available. Villa La Borna at Begur is situated on
the Mediterranean and offers modern style three/four
bedroom villas 'front line' to the sea.
Only
a day's drive away from the UK, there are many low
cost flights to Barcelona, Girona and Pernigon just
across the border in France. There is also the
option of a Eurostar train from London via Paris or
Lille. However you get to the Catalan region, it
will be well worth the journey.
ANDALUCIA
Gaucin, Casares and Jimena are
some of the famous 'pueblo blanco' villages of
Southern Andalucia, Spain. All with stunning natural
surroundings and magnificent views they make havens
for nature lovers and artists and offer all kinds of
rural properties including country estates, country
houses, country villas, village houses, townhouses,
equestrian, farms, fincas, cortijos, plots and land
for building. Their proximity to 3 main airports
Gibraltar, Malaga and Jerez makes it easy to travel
to and from other parts of the World.
This
area of Southern Andalucia is steeped in history
going back as far as the Moors and Romans. Casares
with its Roman Baths clinging to the mountainside is
only 15 minutes away from the Coast yet a thousand
miles away in terms of peace and tranquility. Jimena
is set amongst lush green rolling countryside and is
popular with people in the equestrian world. Gaucin,
a mecca for artists, bird-watchers, walkers, offers
the most spectacular views down to the Coast,
Gibraltar and North Africa. The famous Sotogrande -
the California of the Costa del Sol with its marina
full of impressive yachts and polo matches in the
summer - is a maximum drive of 35 minutes away and
also offers an International School.
Whether
you are looking for the quieter life of an inland
village or an impressive country estate it would be
hard not to find the dream property in this area.
COSTA DEL SOL
Low cost airlines fly to Malaga and nearby Gibraltar
from all over Europe and most of the properties on
the Costa del Sol are less than 30 minutes drive
from an airport. Set within a range of mountains,
with small towns and villages nestling in the hills,
our properties are also found near the provincial
capital of Malaga, the birthplace of Picasso. The
hillside villages of Mijas and Benhavis are rated as
the best in Europe for restaurants and eating, and
Ronda with its majestic architecture and Moorish
influence, has the smallest bullring in Spain.
Nearby Marbella also offers wonderful shops,
hotels and fine dining, plus golf resorts and world
famous health spas. Puerto Banus, home to the rich
and the famous, boasts multi million dollar yachts,
boats, casinos and nightlife. There are over 60 golf
courses on the Costa del Sol and many have hosted
important championships, such as The Ryder Cup and
Spanish Open. Other sports include tennis, paddle
tennis, sailing, powerboat racing and polo. There
are also a number of football academies.
Market renaissance
Prices peaked in 2003 after soaring to ridiculous
levels from a very low starting point. Having
settled down, with agents and developers pricing at
more realistic levels, the Costa del Sol can now be
judged on the factors that have always made it
popular. Life on the Costa del Sol resembles the
South of France, California and the Italian Riviera
- steeped in style and opulence.
Our
properties on the Costa del Sol are found between
Marbella and Estepona and are still able to combine
excellent lifestyle benefits with investment
potential. They consist of apartments and townhouses
in golfing, marina and residential communities as
well as spacious villas and mansions on the
beachfront or in the hillside behind Marbella. Many
have terraces, balconies and private courtyards.

MALLORCA
Rolling hills and
mountains provide a stunning backdrop to many of our
properties in Mallorca, with many delightful towns
and villages nestling in the hillsides. These
include Soller and Mancor, where pears are made, and
Deya - once the home of acclaimed authors such as
Robert Graves.
Home to the great and the good
including: Richard Branson, Michael Douglas,
Catherine Zeta Jones, Mike Oldfield and Jeffrey
Archer own property in Mallorca, together with a
host of other celebrities. You will also find the
stunning medieval castles and royal palaces, where
the King and Queen of Spain spend the summer.
The capital city, Palma, is full of shops,
hotels and restaurants and bursting with culture and
sophistication. Overlooked by its wonderful
cathedral, it is truly one of the finest capital
cities in Europe and has one of the largest ports
and marinas - with over a thousand yachts and boats
plus a ferry port to other Balearic Islands and the
Spanish mainland. Mallorca is rated as the number
one sailing destination in the Mediterranean.
Our
properties in Mallorca are situated throughout the
island: from Palma in the south to Pollensa in the
North; and Andratx in the west to Cala D'or in the
east. Often found near marinas or golf clubs -
including Portals, Alcudia, Son Vida, Santa Ponsa
and Puerto Pollensa - our properties in Mallorca are
nearly always close to hundreds of beaches and
coves.
Variety and quality
Our properties consist of frontline apartments,
townhouses within secure gated communities, and
stunning beachfront villa as well as inland country
properties that have been meticulously restored to
the very highest standard.
Residential Betlam
is a classic example of frontline quality apartments
situated at the eastern tip of the bay of Alcudia.
These new apartments, which are built and ready for
immediate occupation, comprise of two and three
bedroom apartments and penthouses - all with sea
views and direct access to the Mediterranean. Set in
wonderful landscaped gardens with a large pool. Five
golf courses are with a short drive and it is just
45 minutes from Palma international airport. The
small fishing village of Colonia de Sant Pere is a
short distance away, with its fishing fleet and
beachside bars and restaurants.
Low cost airlines
fly into Palma every day. One of the busiest
airports in Europe, it is capable of handling 20
million passengers a year. The majority of tourists
visiting Mallorca tend to stay in the large tourist
resorts close to Palma, but the island is certainly
big enough to offer peace and tranquillity once you
get away from these densely populated areas.
Demand for property in Mallorca has never been
higher and the market has escaped some of the
difficulties encountered in other parts of Spain
over the last year or so. Captial growth is still
running at a reasonable level and this looks set to
continue.

SPANISH ALGARVE
Most of our properties in the Spanish Algarve or
Costa de la Luz are found between the Portuguese
border and the provincial capital city of Huelva
(home of the Spanish strawberry industry with
harvesting from January). They are also close to
traditional fishing villages and towns including
Ayamonte, El Rompido, Isla Canela, Isla Cristina,
and Niebla - a medieval inland town close to the
UNESCO designated Donana National Park, which covers
700,000 acres and boasts 5km of beaches and sand
dunes.
Major Spanish cities such as Sevilla,
Cadiz and Jerez (famous for its sherry and brandy)
are less than two hours drive away and the area is
home to numerous species of birds (including herons,
falcons and eagles). Lisbon is less than 5 hours
drive away.
The remarkable coastline, with
protective sandbanks, offers a wide choice of sports
such as sailing, sand-sailing and windsurfing. There
are a number of golf courses in the area including
Costa Esura, located at the mouth of the Guardiana
river. There is also Golf Neuvo Portil, which has
many delightful villas immediately on the course.
Our properties consist of apartments, townhouses
and villas both in new developments and many
situated in fishing villages, inland towns and rural
areas. Some are in need of restoration whilst others
have been totally reformed but still retain the
original style and appeal.
An
'emerging' region
The Costa de la Luz has only been discovered by
foreign property investors in the last 10 years and
prices still compare favourably to other parts of
Spain, as well as the Portuguese Algarve. Access to
the Spanish Algarve is usually via Faro in Portugal
with low cost flights in abundance with EasyJet,
Ryan Air, Thompsons, Monarch and many more.
Travelling time from Faro to the Spanish Algarve is
only 45 minutes by motorway.
Buying a
property on the Spanish Algarve offers enormous
investment potential as well as being one of the
best places to live in Spain in a warm all year
round climate.
TURIA VALLEY
The Turia Valley or 'Green Spain' and it's
surroundings is a favoured holiday location of the
Spanish people. Located between Galicia and
Asturias, it is a natural paradise full of charm and
exceptional beauty.
It is protected by UNESCO as a
Biosphere Reserve.
It is a valley of magical
forests, breathtaking scenery, stunning mountains and
crystal clear rivers.
All very close to
idyllic beaches.
The Turia Valley maintains the
traditional relaxed way of Spanish life.
It has
superb gastronomy, local community spirit and is
famed for its warm hospitality.
As well as a deep
sense of tranquility, the valley and its surround
also boast excellent outdoor activities.
Including trekking, cycling routes, nautical sports
and world class salmon fishing.
The valley has
two large towns, Tauramundi and Pontenova, and more
than one hundred small traditional villages and
hamlets.
The region has two airports (Santiago
and Asturias) with daily flights to the UK and other
European countries.
The ferry ports of Bilbao and
Santander are easily accessible.
The stunning
pilgrimage city of Santiago de Compostela is nearby
and visited by millions every year.
The Turia
valley was the birthplace of Spanish rural tourism,
initially to the people of Madrid and other large
cities.
It has a mild climate which is
comfortable all year round.
Most of our
properties are of traditional stone and local tmber
(oak and chestnut ), usually close to or within
lovely villages and beaches.
Most have land and own water supply, and some
have rivers and streams.
Owners easily integrate
into the community and village.
It enjoys a
relatively low cost of living!
Finally
remember that more and more people are looking for
renovation projects in rural Northern Spain.
Not
only because of it's incredible low cost and value,
but because of it's outstanding quality of life.
It's superb cuisine ( home of Spanish cider ) and
strong emphasis on family life and traditional
values.
