REGIONAL INFORMATION FOR MONTPENSIER GOLF, VICHY, FRANCE
Foret de Montpensier - Golf International
The Auvergne, France
Golf de la Foret de Montpensier is a premier golf resort, located 6 km from Vichy (www.ville-vichy.fr), an historic spa town with casinos, a concert venue/opera house, a major floodlit racetrack and all of the facilities one would expect of a prosperous provincial town. The Auvergne region has the largest number of hiking trails in France, one of the largest national parks in Europe and several ski resorts are only a short drive away. We are far from the crime, grime and traffic of the South of France and other commercial resorts in Europe, but have several sophisticated, cultural and historical towns close by.
The golf course which opened in May 1998 was commissioned by Mark McCormack of IMG and built to PGA design by the celebrated American designer, James Engh. It is a 6,000 m long, par 72, 18-hole Championship course.
The Golf de la Foret de Montpensier is set in a prime oak forest on a 400 acres site, of which 250 acres are zoned for real estate development. A detached zone of 54 plots, called
"Domaine de la Cheneraie" (The Oaks), is now ready for development.
